‘I have nothing to do
the rest of my life
but do it
and the rest of my
life to do it’

When I think of my AQUARIAN QUARTET collaboration with Steve Newman, Tony Cox and Greg Georgiades I always end up thinking of the Zen-dom in Kerouac’s words. He speaks to me of a commitment to time that is unconcerned with the tediousness and boredom of a journey. The path begets the Spirit.

With all that in mind, I can honestly say that there is absolutely nothing I look more forward to than spending the rest of my life playing with these three scallywags. The empathy that we feel between us is quite uncanny at times. Critics have written that when listening to us perform they often “abandon trying to work out who is playing what”. Somehow the egos are left at the door, the magic kicks in and we mesh into a sound that is rapidly evolving into one we can call our own.

The CD was recorded live at the Grahamstown Festival July 2000 by acclaimed engineer Ian Osrin, who also just happens to be an Aquarian. It was launched at Des and Dawn Lindberg’s home in Johannesburg October 2000, and has sold consistently well in shops and wherever the QUARTET have performed. Click on the Mp3 link and enjoy.
