BAFO
The
BAFO BAFO partnership between Madala
Kunene and Syd Kitchen has gone from strength to strength
since its inception in 2002. The two musicians have
just returned from the South African “10 Years
of Democracy” Cultural Festival in Copenhagen,
Denmark where they performed with Danish percussionist
Lars Storck as well as give workshops and take part
in plenary discussions.
Besides appearing countrywide at every major SA music
Festival and club in the last two years, BAFO
BAFO have also performed at several notable
corporate functions; among them the International Summit
for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg and the
Africa Peace Awards in Durban. In addition, both members
have performed internationally this past year; Syd Kitchen
has been to England (to the Glastonbury Festival amongst
others), Wales and Norway and Madala Kunene has performed
in New York and Switzerland.
Other notable achievements include being commissioned
by Cell C to provide an image that
could be used as part of their effort to rejuvenate
the inner city with art. This image is currently displayed
on the side of Mackintosh House, 457 West Street,
Durban. BAFO BAFO’s
picture has also been extensively used by the “Proudly
Durban” campaign in their marketing of the city
during the past two years.
The BAFO BAFO debut album “What
Kind!?” is completed and is currently
being presented to record companies both locally and
internationally. The Michael Cross filmed DVD documentary
of the same name; that had a showing at the recent Durban
Film Festival; will be released simultaneously with
the album.
Durban audiences will get an opportunity to hear the
magic of BAFO BAFO when the duo appear
at the Catalina Theatre at Wilson’s
Wharf, Durban from January 12 to 16, 2005.
Not to be missed.
