BAFO BAFO and CELL C

Bafo Bafo has been commissioned to provide a visual image that will be displayed on the side of a Durban building for the next 2 years. Following on mobile company Cell C’s drive to improve the inner city image of both Johannesburg and Cape Town, the company has requested artwork from a variety of Durban artists with the view to improving the visual impact of inner Durban.

The brief was to create a work of art that includes the letter C as a natural ingredient in the visual.

Departing from an image of a Maingard guitar’s sound hole (visit Maingard guitars at www.guitarsafrica.co.za), the Bafo Bafo team of Michael Cross and his assistants at Frameworks, Durban, came up with a winner that was accepted without reservation by the judging committee.

The building that will host the Bafo Bafo visual is Mackintosh House in down town West Street. The hanging will take place in June 2004.
