News / Waiting for the Heave : Re-Release
Currently in the News:

Coming up in Early 2004 is the No Budget Records digitally re-mastered release of SYD KITCHEN & THE UTENSILS seminal 1987 album “Waiting For The Heave”.

Originally released on vinyl by Hairy Guava Records, the album will now be made available in multi-media CD ROM form (designed by Dave Ambrose from the Rock Spyder Design Group) with video footage from the period, interviews, and rare photographs. The video footage includes a video of “Marcus” shot by Michael Cross in 1987, a 5 minute documentary made by Chris Marquard for SABC (with shots of the Utensils live at Jamesons in Jo’berg) and an off the cuff camera interview with Syd Kitchen in 2003.

Peter Bircham from The Garden Of Earthly Design has reconstituted the original gatefold cover into a fresh new format, while retaining many of the main features from the original. Steven Segerman from The Rock Digest has written the liner comments.

The album also contains two previously unreleased bonus tracks recorded by Lloyd Ross at Shifty Studios in Johannesburg in January ’88. These two tracks include Syd Kitchen on guitar and vocals, Marius Botha on bass, Ian Herman on drums, Rick Van Heerden on sax, Dave Tarr on violin and Dan Chiorboli on percussion.
